After 11 years, Novo Mangueirão welcomes Flamengo and delights fans with a historic match
After 11 years, the Flamengo team returned to the Novo Mangueirão pitch, in a dispute against Sampaio Corrêa RJ, valid for the Rio championship. On the night of this Wednesday (31), thousands of red and black fans were present at the Estádio Olímpico do Pará, Journalist Edgar Proença, to see up close the Flamengo squad that emerged victorious, with a favorable score of 2-0 against their rival.
Before the match started, outside in the parking lot, the fans were already excited and thinking about victory. Fan Magno Souza traveled around eight hours from Tucuruí to Belém, to see Flamengo up close. “Flamengo came straight here from the United States and with the starting team. Entering today to watch the game and at Mangueirão, a stadium that Tofos speak very highly of, is an accomplishment,” he said.
The Governor of the State of Pará, Helder, Barbalho, cited the importance of the Government investment in Novo Mangueirão to benefit the population of Pará with a modern sports arena. “Today we have one of the most modern sports venues in Brazil, and certainly in the world, so that we could host major football events, strengthening the sport in our state, strengthening our teams, but also enabling the State to host major national and international events. . Today, once again, the fans from Pará put on a show and made Flamento feel at home”, commented the governor.
The Secretary of State for Sports and Leisure, Cássio Andrade, highlighted the importance of the State in having modern equipment like Novo Mangueirão to place on the route of major sporting events. “It was another successful event, Novo Mangueirão showed once again how prepared it is to be the stage for important matches at national level, allowing the public to get to know our beautiful stadium and see their favorite team play”, highlighted the secretary.
Wheelchair user Andrea Costa evaluated Novo Mangueirão as a stadium that met her accessibility expectations in an indescribable experience. “It’s very exciting, because when we come, everything is a challenge. We don’t know what we will find ahead. The issue of accessibility and everything, right? Because everyone keeps saying that wheelchair users can’t. Here, I didn’t find any barriers. It was so easy. And here in Pará things seem to be happening. Now Flamengo came, here comes Cop 30, there was Brazil, it is something that the Government of Pará is to congratulate”, he emphasizes.
Young Gilberto Ferreira, aged 14, has epidermolysis bullosa, a rare genetic disease; and he dreamed of meeting the players on the Flamengo team, he had the opportunity to make this big dream come true.
